Alverton in summer

Welcome to the Homepage of the Alverton & Kilvington Parish meeting.

Windfarm application - Enquiry starts on 9th February

Alverton and Kilvington are separate villages located about a mile apart on the northern fringes of the Vale of Belvior.  Even together the two villages are too small to have a parish council and so we have a parish meeting instead.

Kilvington is mentioned in the Domesday Book and must be one of the smallest villages in Nottinghamshire.  By comparison the relative metropolis of Alverton has about 20 houses.

By and large it is assumed that the people who live here do so by choice and appreciate the relative quiet and isolation of the countryside. We are not a suburb of anywhere and hopefully never will be.

Application for permission to use Staunton Works as a haulage depot

An application has been received for planning permission to change the use of Staunton Works from industrial to a haulage depot.

At a Village Meeting on Wednesay 28th October the members present unanimously voted to oppose the application.  A case was put to Newark & Sherwood District Council. Many residents sent in letters of objection.

The application is for change of use to "storage and associated haulage". In fact this is for a distribution depot pure and simple.  This is a big site and as the application covers the whole site this is a very important application.

The matter was considered by the Newark & Sherwood Planning Committee who decided that they were "minded to grant" the application subject to restrictions on HGV's using the site, hours of operation and routing being negotiated with the applicant.

VIEW the application, the submission put in by the Parish Meeting and the officer's report to the committee.

Vale Villages in transition

"Vale Villages in Transition" is an environmental group whose aim is to educate and inspire the local community to take action against Climate Change and Peak Oil. Alverton and Kilvington are two of the ‘catchment’ villages for the group.  For more information visit www.valevillagesintransition.org.uk.

We have obtained a plan showing the details of the works.  The plan was obtained in November 2009 and could change.
