Wind Farm application - Palmers Hollow, Bottesford.Latest positionThe appeal against the non-grant of this planning application permission will be heard at The Victory Commemoration Hall, Belvoir Road, Bottesford on Tuesday 9th to Friday 12th February and then from the 16th to 19th February. The application is by Ridgewind Limited for a wind farm at Palmers Hollow just north of Bottesford The planning committee of Melton Borough Council voted last year to reject the application. The resolution was academic because Ridgewind had already made an appeal to the Secretary of State. In the light of the resolution, the Council will oppose the appeal. The recommendation of the planning officer to the committee was to refuse. Read the officer's report (opens in new window) Broadly the officer's view as expressed at the meeting was that while the Council does not oppose windfarms in themselves, it is not appropriate to put one in the historic Vale of Belvoir landscape. In other words, the harm which the proposed windfarm would cause would outweigh the benefits. BLOT will also oppose. It is understood that BLOT's grounds of opposition will be wider than those of the Council. BackgroundThe application follows the rejection after a public enquiry of an application by Infinergy Limited for a wind farm just several hundred yards to the north. See the map below for general location of both sites - the Ridgewind site is the southern most of the two red areas on the map. (Click map for a larger image). It is located approximately 750m east of Normanton, 750m northeast of Bottesford, 750m north of Muston and 2 km west of Sedgebrook. It is near enough to Alverton and Kilvington to impact on the historic views of Belvoir Castle and the spire of Bottesford Church. The current application plan can be seen here. The height of the turbines can be appreciated by a blimp which BLOT have flown as part of their campaign. Click the link on the left to see a picture of the blimp. Although the blimp is small it takes very little imagination to see the impact which these giant industrial turbines would have on the landscape for a very wide area. The turbines would be about twice the height of Bottesford spire. For more infromation visit the BLOT website at www.blot-online.org. For details of the application visit Melton Borough Council Planning. For the full decision on the Infinergy application see APPEAL DECISION.
